Who wouldn';t want to find offshore jobs in Texas. It is a very fast growing industry. Texas employment increased by 47,900 jobs from September to October. Between October 2009 and October 2010, Texas gained 172,800 jobs.
Until recently, even though the Texas economy has become much more diversified and the oil business is not nearly as dominant as it has been in the past, wages in this industry remained the highest in Texas. This has alot to do with the availability of offshore jobs in Texas.
To start with Houston is a leading center for building oil rigs. A big part of Houston';s success in the oil industry is the Port of Houston. And also, while other parts of the country suffer when oil and gas prices rise - Texas actually gets stronger.
Also Houston is the "energy capital" of the world. 80% of the biggest energy companies are headquartered there. Everyone knows about Exxon Mobil, Shell Oil Company, and Chevron.
And if there was any more of a reason to wonder why so many offshore jobs in Texas are available, look at the statistics from the government employment statistics:
They say almost 25% of the US oil and gas jobs (this counts both inland and offshore jobs) is in Harris County where Houston in.
That means almost 15,000 oil jobs are available which is 1% of the whole countries private jobs.
